About Drum Community Centre

First opened in 1988, Drum Community Centre provides sports facilities to various clubs and groups in the Drum and Athlone area, as well as providing a venue for other social meetings, including weekly bingo!

Drum Community Sports & Social Centre Limited (By Guarantee) is the company that was formed to build and operate the centre. You can find out more about our company structure at the bottom of this page.

We’re looking for new volunteers to become involved in running the centre. This includes helping out at our weekly bingo, and also the general management of the centre. If you're interested, just contact us or why not come along some Friday night during bingo.

How to get involved

If you are interested in becoming a member of the company, please make contact with a member of the Board of Directors (details above). As many of the current members of the company.have been involved since the beginning, we feel it is now time for new people to participate in the company. Members who are elected to the Board of Directors are then responsible for making decisions about the operation of the centre. As a member of the board you will also be involved in making important decisions about the future of the Centre. Board meetings usually number no more than about seven in any year, but members are expected to commit to attend as many as possible. We need people from different backgrounds, who can bring their experience and knowledge to the Centre. If you are interested or would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It's your community centre, it's up to you to be a part of it.

Company Structure

The following information was first published on 1st December, 1985

Drum Community Sports & Social Centre Limited is a company which is Limited by Guarantee.

That means that it has no shareholders. It was incorporated under the Companies Acts 1963 to 1983 on 27th May, 1985. The liability of members is limited.

Every member of the Company undertakes to pay an amount not exceeding one pound in the event of the Company being wound up. This is the most any member would be legally obliged to pay.

The Company was formed to build and run the proposed Community Centre. It will also own the Centre.

The members of the Company own the Company. Any adult may be a member of the Company. Applications for membership are invited. The membership subscription is £5.00 per annum. Membership cards, which are non-transferable will be issued to members and will be valid for one year from 1st January, 1986.

The Company shall in each year hold a general meeting as its Annual General Meeting and shall specify the meeting as such in the notices calling it; and not more than 15 months shall elapse between the date of one Annual General Meeting and that of the next.

The first Annual must be held not later than 26th November, 1986. All general meetings other than Annual General Meetings are called Extraordinary General Meetings.

The Directors may, whenever they think fit call an Extraordinary General Meeting.

Alternatively one tenth of the total membership of the Company may demand that an Extraordinary General Meeting be called.

Normally 21 days notice of general meetings will be given. The accidental omission to give notice or the non-receipt of notice of a meeting by any person entitled to receive notice shall not invalidate the proceedings at that meeting. Three members present in person shall be a quorum for a general meeting.

Every member shall have one vote.

No member shall be entitled to vote unless he is a paid up member.
